In most of the third world a brutal battle is waged for survival. Clean drinking water and food is scarce, the average wages are around 2$ a day. Ignorance, tradition, powerful geopolitical interests and poverty grind people’s souls and bodies into a shadow of what God intended for mankind. A handful of rice, a piece of bread, a few legumes and possibly a bit of fruit or vegetable are the average diet. A precarious shelter, a few clothes, meager possessions…
My experience has been that the combination of faith – simple trust in Jesus Christ – reading (or hearing if illiterate) the Bible – begins the restoration of the soul! All other things begin to follow that spiritual root. It is the reason that the BILLIONS of dollars in foreign aid only creates dependence, a few mega-millionaires and little change for the masses. Fortunes are wasted attacking the result and not the root. I thank God for the many that are fed but despair over the misallocation of funds by western governments.
